Filling is a simpler and more familiar treatment option for most parents, but unfortunately, it is not always possible. For the filling to hold securely, the damage to the tooth must not exceed 40%. If the tooth is more severely damaged, the only reliable option for restoration is to install a crown. If the damaged tooth is in the smile zone or the child is allergic to metal alloy components, installing a zirconium crown is virtually the only treatment option.
Zirconium dioxide is an ultra-strong, bioinert white crystalline material (ceramic). Zirconium does not contain metals and does not cause allergic reactions.
