3D computer tomography of teeth

Much of modern dentistry would be impossible without 3D computer tomography of teeth. It provides a 3D model of the jaws, allowing the dentist to see hidden pathologies and the location of nerves and roots, which helps in planning treatment, choosing the optimal method of restorative dentistry, and correcting the bite. The examination takes just a few seconds, and the radiation exposure is low and harmless, especially when performed on new equipment such as that used at Club 32. We take care of every stage of your treatment to ensure long-lasting results.

3D dental computed tomography: accurate diagnosis in dentistry

Modern dentistry is inextricably linked to accurate diagnostics. One of the most informative methods is 3D (three-dimensional) computed tomography (CT). This type of examination allows you to obtain a three-dimensional image of the maxillofacial region and assess the condition of bone tissue, tooth roots, canals, and surrounding structures.

Unlike traditional X-rays, which produce a two-dimensional image, CT allows the doctor to see the anatomy of the dentofacial system in its entirety, including the smallest details. This is especially important when planning implantation, retreatment of canals, atypical removal, and assessment of injuries.

As for safety, computed tomography does use X-rays, but the dose is significantly lower than that of a classic X-ray, especially when using modern CBCT machines (our clinic has one of these). The procedure takes only a few minutes and is considered safe even for children (when indicated) and elderly patients.

The specialists at Club 32, a family dental clinic in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, use 3D CT scans of the jaw for all complex clinical cases.

We always make every effort to preserve your teeth and restore their functionality and aesthetics. If necessary, you can have a 3D image of your teeth taken right here at our clinic at a reasonable price.

In addition, you can pay for examinations and treatment in installments without any extra charges.

We do everything to ensure that your treatment is effective, affordable, and comfortable.

Methodology for performing 3D computer tomography of teeth

3D CT of teeth is performed on a specialized tomograph. The patient does not need to lie down — the examination is performed in a sitting or standing position.

3D tomography is a layer-by-layer scan that produces a three-dimensional model of the jaw. The resulting panoramic 3D image of the teeth allows the doctor to examine the smallest details from different angles. The procedure is painless, lasts 10–20 seconds, and the level of X-ray radiation used by the tomograph is minimal and safe.

Advantages of 3D diagnostics in dentistry

Three-dimensional computed tomography provides incomparably more information than conventional X-rays. Here are the key advantages:

  • high accuracy: the doctor receives a detailed image of all anatomical structures;
  • safety: the radiation dose is 5–10 times lower than with a full-body CT scan;
  • speed: the entire procedure takes no more than 5 minutes;
  • versatility: suitable for all areas—therapy, surgery, implantation, orthodontics.

A 3D dental examination allows you to identify hidden cysts, granulomas, fractures, pathological changes in the canals and bone tissue. It is necessary before installing implants, complex root canal treatment, and jaw surgery.

When is a 3D dental scan needed?

Indications for this examination include a wide range of situations requiring accurate three-dimensional visualization of the anatomy of the teeth and jaws.

Here are the main cases in which computed tomography is used and the advantages it offers:

Implant planning.

Before installing dental implants, it is extremely important to assess the volume, density, and structure of bone tissue, as well as the location of important anatomical structures—the mandibular canal, maxillary sinuses, and roots of adjacent teeth. 3D CT allows you to avoid trauma, accurately select the length and diameter of the implant, and plan the installation with high precision, right down to virtual modeling.

Removal of complex wisdom teeth.

Third molars often have an atypical position, curved roots, and may be located close to nerves. Tomography helps to determine in advance the position of the tooth relative to the mandibular nerve canal and the roots of adjacent teeth, which reduces the risk of complications during removal.

Suspicion of cysts or tumors.

If darkening or thickening is detected on an X-ray, CT helps to accurately assess the size, boundaries, structure, and involvement of surrounding tissues. This is necessary for differential diagnosis between a cyst, granuloma, benign or malignant formation, and for planning surgical intervention.

Root fractures and cracks.

CT is indispensable for injuries: it reveals hidden jaw fractures, vertical and horizontal root cracks that are not always visible on conventional images. This allows you to choose the right tactic — to save the tooth or remove it.

Root canal retreatment.

If retreatment is necessary (in case of unsuccessful initial treatment), the doctor needs to see the number and shape of the roots, curvatures, unfilled areas, hidden canals, perforations, and foci of inflammation outside the root. CT allows you to do all this and significantly increases the chances of success of repeated endodontic intervention.

Orthodontic treatment (braces).

When preparing to install braces, it is important to assess the position of the buds, impacted teeth, bite abnormalities, and bone tissue volume. 3D CT allows the doctor to accurately plan tooth movement and avoid overload and complications.

Pain syndrome of unknown etiology.

If a patient complains of pain, but there are no obvious causes visually or on X-rays, CT helps to identify hidden inflammation, microcracks, neoplasms, pathological pockets, and other causes of pain.

Preparation for prosthesis installation.

For removable and non-removable structures, it is important to accurately assess the shape, height, and thickness of the bone ridge, the position of the supporting teeth, and the characteristics of the bite. CT provides a clear picture of the anatomy and helps to create the most accurate, comfortable, and durable prosthesis possible.

Our specialists use three-dimensional computed tomography to eliminate diagnostic errors and make treatment minimally invasive and as effective as possible.
