Clasp dentures

Clasp dentures are a reliable solution for restoring tooth function
A type of removable system in restorative dentistry. It is often the optimal solution when it is necessary to restore the dentition after the loss of several teeth in a row, but there are contraindications for a non-removable type of restoration.
A clasp prosthesis is made individually, taking into account the characteristics of the bite and the color of your teeth, and does not differ in appearance. Want to know if this type of prosthesis is right for you? - Sign up for a consultation.

Claps dentures — aesthetics, reliability, and comfort

There are clinical cases when the best form of prosthetics — the installation of implants — is impossible due to health conditions, financial reasons, or anatomical features. In such situations, Club 32, a modern dental clinic in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, offers patients an alternative — clasp dentures. This is a convenient, durable, and gentle method of restoring a partially lost dentition.

A clasp denture is a type of removable orthopedic structure. Unlike plate-type analogues, it consists of a sturdy metal arch connecting the left and right parts of the denture. This arch (German: Bügel) allows the chewing load to be evenly distributed across the entire jaw without damaging the mucous membrane and preserving the supporting teeth. On the upper jaw, this design leaves the palate open, preserving taste and temperature sensitivity.

Modern clasp dentures are even suitable for patients with metal allergies. In such cases, we offer products with a bioplastic coating on the arch — for example, the Italian Quattrotti system, which eliminates contact between the mucous membrane and metal.

Our orthopedists have many successful cases of manufacturing and installing such dentures for patients of all ages.

We take an individual approach to prosthetics — we develop a unique treatment plan for each patient, allowing us to install a prosthesis that takes into account their specific characteristics and wishes at an affordable price.

As a result, you get a clasp prosthesis at an affordable price and maximum comfort during all dental procedures. In addition, you can pay for prosthetics in installments and without overpaying.

Advantages and disadvantages of claps

Advantages:

  • even distribution of chewing load;
  • durability and long service life;
  • reduced load on the gums;
  • preservation of taste and temperature sensation of food;
  • Hypoallergenic materials if necessary;
  • Secure fixation, high level of comfort

Disadvantages:

  • need to grind down supporting teeth;
  • Visibility of metal elements (in clasp models);
  • higher cost compared to acrylic dentures

Types of fastening for claps dentures

With clasps

The denture is attached to the patient's teeth using special metal hooks (clasps). They do not damage the gums or teeth, but are quite noticeable in the mouth, which negatively affects the aesthetics of the smile.

With attachments

To implement this technology, special metal-ceramic crowns with a built-in lock (attachment) in the form of a miniature rail or ball are placed on the teeth bordering the "gap" in the dental arch. A polyurethane matrix is welded into the prosthesis itself, which is attached to these locks. This attachment is invisible when smiling and makes the prosthesis much more comfortable than its clasp counterpart, ensuring a firm fit in the mouth. In addition, the prosthesis only needs to be removed from the locks for hygiene purposes — no more than once a day.

However, this method of fixation has a drawback. The fact is that the teeth on which the crowns with attachments are placed will experience additional stress. Therefore, at the time of prosthetics, they must be strong enough — otherwise, they will also have to be prosthetized in the near future. It should also be taken into account that due to the greater technological complexity, the price of such prostheses is slightly higher.

Telescopic attachment

In this case, all of the patient's remaining teeth are ground down and fitted with metal-ceramic crowns. Then a full jaw prosthesis is made, in which the corresponding "crowned" artificial teeth are equipped with entry holes. When put on, the crowns fit tightly into the openings. As a result, the patient gets full jaw functionality and an aesthetic smile without additional stress on the remaining teeth.

The price of clasp dentures varies depending on the method of fixation, materials, and the number of teeth that need to be restored.

During the initial consultation with our orthopedist, you will receive a precise individual treatment plan and a cost estimate for the manufacture of the denture in your case.

Stages of manufacturing and installatoin of a claps denture

It usually takes about two weeks and four visits to Club 32 to manufacture such a denture.

During the first visit, we take impressions for bite pads, which are made in the laboratory within a few days.

During the second appointment, the patient bites down on these pads in their usual bite. This results in an exact copy of the bite, which is used in the laboratory to create plaster models and check them on a special device called an occluder. Next, based on these models, wax tooth saddles are formed, into which artificial teeth are inserted. In essence, this is the future prosthesis, simply made of a softer material. The patient tries on this preliminary version during the third visit. If no problems are found — which is usually the case — the blank is sent to the laboratory, where the wax is replaced with plastic.

During the fourth appointment, the fully finished prosthesis is tried on, and the final precise adjustments and settings are made.

Important!

You have probably had cases when shoes that seemed perfectly comfortable in the store started to rub immediately after the first time you wore them outside. This also happens with dentures. The patient may not always feel discomfort during the fitting, so rubbing, pressure, and discomfort in the first few days of wearing are not uncommon. Don't worry — just come back to our clinic, and we will fix any problems we find.

How to extend the life of your dentures

To maintain the function and hygiene of the structure, it is important to:

  • have an examination by an orthopedic doctor every 6 months;
  • have the prosthesis rebased (fit adjusted) if necessary;
  • not use hot water for cleaning;
  • clean the prosthesis with a brush and a special cleaning agent;
  • store the structure in a container if you do not use it at night

The service life of clasp dentures is 5–7 years. However, even with perfect care, replacement is inevitable after this period — plastic elements lose their hygienic properties over time as they absorb moisture and odors.

If you are looking for a reliable, aesthetic, affordable, and durable solution for partial edentulism, clasp dentures at Club 32 are exactly what you need. We use proven technologies, an individual approach, and guarantee high quality for all orthopedic services.

We will help you regain comfort, health, and self-confidence.
