How to overcome anxiety

What helps reduce anxiety

Anxiety can be both an independent disorder and a symptom of certain illnesses.

Therefore, before turning to psychological techniques, it is worth making sure that chronic anxiety is not a sign of disorders in the functioning of internal organs and body systems.

For example, unexplained morning anxiety is often associated with disorders of the adrenal glands, while constant tension and increased situational anxiety may be linked to thyroid dysfunction.

In addition, anxiety can be a manifestation of clinical depression.

In such cases, only medication prescribed by a qualified doctor can help.

If all test results are normal and a psychiatrist has not identified depression, we recommend the following steps:

  • Shift your focus to the part of life that you can control, and accept that some things are beyond our will. Do not forget: we live in an era of global change, and the level of uncertainty is now extremely high. So do what is within your power, and let the rest be what it will be.
  • Significantly reduce the amount of time you spend reading the news. A couple of times a day is quite enough.
  • Identify exactly what triggers your anxiety. These may be certain situations, people, or even thoughts. Understanding the causes will help you understand how to isolate or avoid anxiety-provoking factors.
  • Use time-tested relaxation techniques: deep breathing, yoga, meditation.
  • Spend more time on physical activity. Regular exercise releases endorphins, which are natural antidepressants and calming agents.
  • Follow a daily routine. Establish a stable schedule that includes enough sleep and healthy nutrition.
  • Allow yourself rest and reasonable entertainment. Dedicate more time to what brings you pleasure.
  • If possible, seek professional help.

It is advisable to choose psychotherapists based on recommendations.
