A zirconia crown on an implant is the optimal solution for restoring the dentition
A zirconia crown is one of the most modern solutions in prosthetic dentistry. This type of prosthesis is widely used for dental restoration. Zirconia combines high mechanical strength, wear resistance, and excellent aesthetics, making it a versatile material for various clinical cases. Such crowns are ideal for both chewing teeth and the front area (smile zone). The material is biocompatible, does not cause allergic reactions, and is safe for oral tissues.
The orthopedists at Club 32, a family dental clinic in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, have a portfolio of many successful cases of restoring lost teeth using artificial root implants (implants) followed by the installation of zirconium crowns.
We practice an individual approach to prosthetics – we develop a unique treatment plan for each patient, allowing us to install a zirconium crown on an implant, taking into account the specifics of the clinical situation, wishes, and at an affordable price. In addition, you can pay for the cost of treatment in installments and without overpaying.
Stages of manufacturing and installing a zirconium crown on an implant
Implant prosthetics is a multi-stage process that requires careful preliminary planning. In our dental clinic, implantation and subsequent prosthetics are considered as part of a single treatment plan aimed at the complete restoration of the function and aesthetics of the dentition. Therefore, from the very beginning of treatment, the orthopedist works closely with the implant surgeon.
In the first stage, the team of doctors performs a comprehensive diagnosis:
- scans the oral cavity
- analyzes the bite
- evaluates the volume and quality of bone tissue
- if necessary, a CT scan is performed (the examination is carried out at our clinic)
Based on the data obtained, digital planning of the implantation is performed. The position of the implant is calculated so that the crown does not interfere with the bite after fixation. Particular attention is paid to the parameters of the future orthopedic structure — its shape, size, and position in the dental arch. These characteristics determine the location, angle, and depth of the implant. This approach allows us to predict the outcome of treatment in advance and ensure long-term and trouble-free operation of both the implant and the crown.
The next stage is implantation. The use of a surgical template ensures that the digital model of the implant placement strictly corresponds to its actual position in the bone. If necessary, bone grafting (bone augmentation) is performed before implantation.
After the implant is placed, the osseointegration (implant healing) period begins. Depending on the type of implant and the clinical picture, this can take from several weeks to several months.
After successful osseointegration, a gum former is placed on the implant to create the correct contour of the soft tissues around the future crown. The former is then replaced with an abutment, which is a connecting element between the implant and the prosthetic structure. Next, digital scanning or impressions are taken, on the basis of which a crown is manufactured in a dental laboratory. During its production, color, shape, and transparency are taken into account so that the crown fits the patient's dentition as accurately as possible.
At the final stage, the orthopedist places the zirconium crown on the implant and checks the accuracy of the fit and occlusion. If necessary, minor adjustments are made immediately. After confirming the correct position, the crown is permanently fixed in place.
The cost of installing a zirconium crown on an implant depends on the following factors:
- implant class
- the need for bone grafting
Pros and cons of zirconium crowns on implants
In modern dentistry, zirconium is considered one of the most reliable materials for implant prosthetics. It is highly durable, resistant to stress, has excellent aesthetics and biocompatibility, is not subject to corrosion, and does not cause darkening of the gums.
One of its relative disadvantages is its higher cost compared to metal-ceramic crowns, but the price of zirconium crowns on implants is justified by their durability and natural aesthetics.
